Pastel Paper U Art 400 Pastel Paper, Pastel Premier, Lux Archival, and Pastel Mat are all good choices. I used sanded and archival papers. U art 400 and Lux Archival handle underpaiintings with wet media well.
Pastels Nu Pastels48 I’ve listed the set of 48 but bigger sets are also very useful
Nu Pastels96 A larger set with many needed colors
Rembrandt Micro 5 picce micro Set Deep Viiolets
Sennelier Extra Soft 6 pack of greens Spring Greens
Jack Richeson pastels An affordable option to expand beyond hard pastels. A consistent and soft release from the pastel stick.
Unison Pastels Wonderful colors with a medium softness. Releases well from the stick.
I use many pastel brands: Terry Ludwig, Blue earth, Unison, Jack Richeson, Great Amnerican, Nupastels, Sennelier, and there are many more good brands. Avoid store brand pastels from your local craft store which contain mostly binder and feel chalky. They have a cheap price because there’s very little actual color and mostly just a chalky color. There are great online sources to buy from—see a few below:
