Art at the Cathedral presents Layered in Pastels: Marking New Paths
Art at the Cathedral, a gallery at Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky, is pleased to host an exhibit of art by pastel artist, Julie Quick and her art students. What makes this group of artists unique?
As artists we apply our pastel medium in unique ways. In our work we emphasize a layering process with our pastels, instead of using a blending approach. Layering colors helps to create brilliant colors full of depth. Often we use an underpainting technique with pastel and brushes before we layer more color.
More importantly, we are storytellers who weave thoughts and emotions into our layers of pastel. Our approaches are diverse, and revealed through distinctive mark making . Our marks vary from bold to gently nuanced and from abstraction to realism.
We are a compilation of women artists who find common threads of extensive life and career experiences, and have shifted to more creative lives after careers in other fields. Each of us is marking new paths in our lives as we take creative journeys as visual artists. Please join us and experience our viewpoints through the collective works of 65 paintings.
This show is open daily Monday- Thursdays from 9am-4pm and during the Lexarts Hop on March 21 from 5-8pm. Enter at Cathedral Way from Market Street. Freed parking available on Weekdays.
